There is always a smile on my face when I talk about Dubai. I haven’t yet shown you all the places that we have visited but I am itching to tell you about this place! I don’t know quite how to explain it, but this place holds a special place in my heart, maybe because, I was excited at the time as it was my honeymoon, but Dubai overseed my expectations. EVERYTHING in Dubai is made to impress. If you have money to spend this is the place to go, with thousands of activities, where anything is impossible, from high end brands to tickets to attractions with possibility to add something extra or exclusive!

We spent four days in Dubai as it worked as a stopover to our last destination (the Maldives).  We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Dubai (to know some more about it check out my post about The basics before travelling o Dubai).

Don’t miss the featuring video of Dubai! Let me know your thoughts!

  1. Dubai Mall

Dubai Mall is the biggest retail center in the world with more than 1200 stores, the Dubai Aquarium and an ice ring.

  1. Mall of the Emirates

Mall of the Emirates is another big shopping center with a glass Dome that brings natural light into the shopping, just amazing!

  1. Dubai Aquarium

One of the biggest aquarium in the world with 10 million liters of water, more than 33000 aquatic animals and the famous 48 meter tunnel.

  1. Burj Kalifa

The tallest building in the world, a piece of art. There are two types of ticket, when visiting this building: “AT THE TOP” (level 124 and 125) and “AT THE TOP SKY” (Level 124, 125 and 148). The tickets can be bought directly on the website, and my advice is to try and book with some advance! Depending on the season they might be sold out on the previous month. The difference of tickets is 23 levels, an exclusive experience with sofas and the price!

  1. Fountain show in front of Burj Kalifa

This is an impressive show, as everything else. It’s not just the show but everything around it, there are no cold evenings and around the fountains there are countless restaurants, where you can seat and enjoy the show with an amazing dinner! Each show is about 5 minutes, they start at 18:00 and there is one every 30 minutes until 23:00. There is also two shows during the day at 13:00 and 13:30 (or 13:30 and 14:00 on Fridays).

  1. Desert Safari

There are lots of companies doing this type of service. We used “Arabian Adventures” and we bought everything through their website. You tell them witch hotel you are staying and they send you confirmation and the time they will pick you up from your hotel! We did the Sunset Dune Dinner Safari and the service was just amazing. There is a desert dune drive, a bird demonstration, and when you get to the camp, a three course meal served with soft drinks, camels riding, sand-boarding, henna painting, aromatic shisha, belly dancing show and to finish it off, an even bigger show. They turn off all the camp’s lights and you can see the stars for a few minutes without any light pollution, amazing!

  1. Aquaventure

If you like a good waterpark like me, this is a must, when visiting Dubai. Located in the Palm, this massive waterpark has every type of water activity, but I have to mention one with a big drop, which finishes with a tube going through a tank full of sharks. I spent some time convincing Ricardo to go but when I went, I was the one screaming like a baby and almost had a heart attack, my back didn’t touch the slide because it was so upright!

There are artificial rivers around the park, which you can use to get around the park avoiding to walk using a one or two seat rubber ring. There are big sliders with rubber rings for maximum of 8 people, there is a dolphin bay, birds and reptile shows as well.

The tickets may include towel and locker, everything uses a bracelet system and the money you spend too. So, you can keep everything in the looker and not be worried about anything and you can go back to the locker as many times as you need to!

  1. Burj AL Arab

Burj in Arabic means tower and this one is one of the city’s icon. It was built in 1999with a shape of a sail and is now a worldwide phenomenon in luxury tourism.

  1. Souk Madinat Jumeirah or Little Venice

Surrounded by water canals, this is a shopping center inspired in the traditional souks but with air-conditioned. Here, you can find some traditional Arabian products but with tourist prices.

      1. Jumeirah Mosque

This is an example of the modern Islam arquitecture. Built in 1998 with white stone, the visit to the mosque is unmissable. Visits are from Saturday to Thursday only at 9:45 in the morning and the ticket is 10 AED. If you like night time pictures the mosque is even more beautiful.

A lot of Dubai visitors tend to go and see Sheikh Zayed Mosuqe in Abu Dhabi, its two hours each way and it’s the biggest Mosque in the country. We had a lot planed and taking a four hours’ journey out of our four-day visit was not possible!

      1. Old Dubai

It was here, where I saw the cultural routes as the golden, spices and textile markets are all here, one on top of the other, right next to the creek. This market started in the beginning of Dubai with the palm trees trade. There is nothing you can’t find in is the place from traditional Arabian things to fake handbags and watches, but you have to be ready to bargain and to have all the vendors approaching you to sell their product, but it’s part of the experience!

      1. Boat trip

If you visit the old Dubai, I advise you to cross the creek by boat at least once. This is where you can see the evolution from the traditional old Dubai to the sky scrapers in the new part, the journey only costs 1AED.

      1. Diner at the Marina

A 3.5Km channel with redirected waters from the Arabian Gulf, all planed with sky scrapers around it. Once more, this place shows the greatness of Dubai and that it is possible to create anything from nothing! The imagination and the power dominate this city and that’s what makes it so unique! To get there just ask the taxi driver to take you to Pier 7 (which is a building with gourmet restaurants), which is nearby the shopping center! We had dinner in a restaurant called Zafran with Indian food, just delicious!

  1. The Atlantis, The Palm

A luxury hotel located in the Palm, many people see it as one of Dubai’s Icons and it doesn’t disappoint, it’s wonderful! The aquaventure it’s located just by its side, for the hotel guests, the aquaventure is free!

  1. The Food

With so much variety, the food is no exception, there is a bit of everything for every taste and every wallet! Here are some of the dishes that we tried and the respective restaurants, which I totally recommend!
